The entire team at Emergency Reporting would like to congratulate ER customer Fire Chief John Sinclair of Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue (WA) for his successful year of service as the President and Chairman of the Board of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC). Emergency Reporting Executive Director Ed O’Neill and Regional Sales Reps Hedy Kraft and Billy Craft attended Chief Sinclair’s IAFC Presidential Celebration at Fire-Rescue International (FRI) last week.

In a recent IAFC TV interview at FRI, Chief Sinclair spoke about his past year as IAFC president and described the accomplishments he’s most proud of.

“I’ve had the opportunity to testify on Capital Hill three times, talking about our issues,” Chief Sinclair said. “Probably the things I’m the most proud about are that this year we created the Women Fire Chiefs Counsel and the Diversity Executive Leadership Program, both of which will give voice to people that we need to hear more from.”

When asked about what he has learned from the whole experience, Chief Sinclair was quick to commend his colleagues: “I’ve learned that passion and compassion are the same for firefighters wherever I go,” he said. “Firefighters are the same all over. They just want to serve their community, they want to do good work and they need good leadership to do that. And I’ve met some phenomenal leaders (as I’ve traveled around the country) doing phenomenal things.”

In addition to serving as the 2016-2017 IAFC president, Chief Sinclair has an extensive history of achievements and service within the fire and EMS industry. The IAFC website details his current and past accomplishments:

"Chief John Sinclair is currently the fire chief of Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue and Emergency Manager for the City of Ellensburg in Washington State. He has held many positions in the fire and emergency service during his career, including firefighter, paramedic, lieutenant, battalion chief, assistant chief and deputy chief.

"Chief Sinclair was a member of the IAFC's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Section for 19 years and served a four-year term as chair. Additionally, Chief Sinclair served on the Advisory Board of Fire and Emergency Television Network (FETN), the Advisory Board for Tacoma Community College and Central Washington University’s Paramedic Program and nine years on the Board of Directors for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Currently he represents the fire service on the National EMS Advisory Council.

"Chief Sinclair has worked with the American College of Surgeons Hartford Consensus I and II on Mass Casualty Incident Management and also assisted the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with a Bystander Response Project."

We’re proud to have an outstanding, accomplished individual like Chief Sinclair as part of our ER community!
